    • Letras is super queer, with a big drag scene (Letras - Ingles students and professors - check out Danilo, who was an FLTA!) I felt really comfortable identifying as a queer woman to my students.

    • Queer UFG campus party - InterPOC.

    • In June, UFG hosts a big event called Digo - Festival Internacional de Diversidade Sexual e de Gênero de Goiás.

  • Nightlife:

    • OZZ (bar with EXCELLENT karaoke)

  • Big pride parade in August.

Political/Social Environment

Resources assessing queer- and trans-friendliness in your country

  • Goiânia’s nickname is “Gayânia¨ - while Goiás is a more conservative state, Goiânia is known for having a large queer population and scene.

  • As a femme white woman, I felt safe in many areas of the city (except for basic situational awareness - I wouldn’t walk alone at night, for example). My roommates, most of whom present as visibly queer, said that “all places are safe and all aren’t. There’s always homophobia, but there are enough of us that they [homophobes] have to accept us.”

  • I found my housing on a Facebook group for room sharing.

  • I lived in a queer república which was just a house with a group of friends, non-affiliated with the university. There are also some queer repúblicas closer to campus, I would see ads for them in the halls of Letras and in the patio behind Letras (closer to the History Department).

Medical resources for LGBTQ persons in your community (special clinics, testing, treatment, pharmacies, etc.)

I didn’t access these services and my roommates didn’t know of any specifically - I’d ask students !!
